♫​ What a difference a dosage makes! 

I have long considered that Hebrart's old-vine 'Selection' Brut NV to be one of the top NV's available and if looking at quality/price ratio, there is no equal. 100% premier & grand cru fruit with an average vine age of over 50 years, only first free-run juice used, combined with long extended lees ageing, it's a no-brainer. Jean-Paul Hebrart is one of the most savvy and gifted winemakers today. 

The debut 'Extra Brut' release is an interesting comparison to the 'Brut'. The lower dosage appears to subdue the aromatics and it at first seems closed. As it opens in the glass it continues to gain power, structure and depth. There is a purity, and chalky minerality that speaks of its origin. As an aside, the Hebrart family used to sell their grapes to Bollinger before producing wines under their own name. I've never seen a correlation before but with the extra-brut I see a stylistic resemblence because of the underlying power matched with such elegance and refinement. Loved them both.
