Since 1971, a group of winegrowers representing the most renowned crus of the region have come together as the Club Trésors de Champagne. The principle aim of this group is to uphold three principles – authenticity, originality and meticulousness – and to increase knowledge of their very best Champagnes through the “Special Club” cuvées. This is no exception and without a doubt one of the best Club releases I've had the pleasure to taste to date.
A blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir sourced from the premier cru villages of Dizy, Hautvillers and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. Average vine age 27 years, 90+ months on lees with a dosage of 4gms/litre
I struggled at first to find descriptors for this wine as it was far above the usual floral or fruit notes that are commonly used - it is so elegant, seductive and fine, it's simply a wine of sheer beauty. Aromatics of freshly cut apple, hazlenut, white florals, vanilla and baked brioche leading to a creamy, textural palate with depth, length and elegance. The balance is exquisite and seamless. An absolute delight at present with the potential to age but I suspect once tried, it will be too difficult to resist!
