The NV Extra-Brut Ambonnay Le Bout du Clos presents a classic Selosse profile of warm, burnished fruit with oxidative overtones. Honey, almonds, anise, orange peel and herbs blossom in a Champagne that is both vertical in its structure and also quite ample. For my palate, a measure of energy is missing, but readers who enjoy, big, vinous Champagnes will find much to like here. Think of this year's Ambonnay as a Pinot version of some of the richer Substances that have emerged from this cellar in recent years.
